If your kids get bored easily or are always moving from one activity to the next, it’s nice to have a variety of things available for them to do. My kids like to go from playing outside to building blanket forts to pretend cooking in a matter of minutes. And they never run out of energy, of course!
When the kids need a break from their almost constant physical activity, I like to get out art supplies. To be honest, my kids would rather run and jump and wrestle than do art, ha ha! But there are certain artistic activities I can get them to do because they are next-level fun! This is where Kwik StixKwik Stix can be used in so many different ways and are fun for the whole family!
What are Kwik Stix?
Kwik Stix are Tempera paint sticks that require no brushes or water and the paint dries in 90 seconds. Simply remove the cap, twist the bottom to raise the paint (kind of like a glue stick) and start painting! These paint sticks are much less messy than traditional paint or water colors. They are washable, too! And with such a short drying time, there’s hardly any wait for the kid’s creations to be ready to use, hang up or give away! They come in two sizes – standard and Thin Stix (see picture). We love the variety of vibrant colors that come in classic, neon and metallic.
Use Kwik Stix in Creative Ways
These fun paint sticks work on multiple surfaces – paper, poster board, cardboard, wood, and we’ve even used them on pumpkins! The kids like to use these to color in their coloring books as well. Our whole family especially loved coloring giant coloring pages like these (even the adults!). I ordered unfinished wooden bird houses and we had a fun time decorating them with the wide variety of Kiwk Stix colors. It’s also cool to use these Astrobrights cardstock pages to make extra colorful creations!
We celebrated our kids’ birthdays with cousins and Kwik Stix were a big hit at the party. I purchased some poster boards, set out both the standard and thin Kwik Stix and the kids had a great time using their imaginations to paint their posters. It was such a simple and easy activity but the kids all loved it. Kwik Stix were even great for making a silly “Pin the Eyes on the Jack-O-Lantern” game.
“Pin the Eyes on the Jack-O-Lantern” made with Kwik Stix and poster board! My nephew drew characters from his favorite books with Kwik Stix at the party!
A Few Tips
Always replace the lid after using Kwik Stix. Like a glue stick, they will dry out if left without a lid for an extended period of time. I have had to throw out a few dried up Stix and it is really a shame to waste them. When stored properly with the lids in place, we have kept many of them for well over a year.
I have found that a good age to introduce these awesome paint sticks is around three years. Kids younger than three tend to press too hard while using Kwik Stix and they generally don’t have the fine motor skills to use them properly. However, younger kids could possibly use these with the help of an adult. Also, the package comes with a warning that small parts (lids) are a choking hazard for kids under three years.
Give Them a Try!
I highly recommend these paint sticks for fun art creations in a variety of settings for both kids and adults. When your family needs some time for creativity, bring out the Kwik Stix! It has been well worth the investment for our family. As you can see, we have used them in multiple ways. These make a great gift, too! Kwik Stix periodically go on Lightning Deal on Amazon, so keep an eye out for them to go on sale. Give Kwik Stix a try and let me know how you and your kiddos use them!
